The History of Astro UP

After pounding nails for 20 years, Arnie Elliott had a dream. A dream of providing top quality building products at competitive prices. A dream of making a decent living for himself and his employees. A dream that became reality in the mid 1980’s when Arnie, along with his wife Candy purchased the old Rock School and converted it into what we now know as Astro UP.

There was a new place in Upper Michigan to go for quality siding, energy-efficient windows, entry doors, and building supplies and Arnie made sure to partner with only the best! However, it wasn’t only the quality products that set Astro UP apart, it was the people! With every sale, Arnie gained a new friend with his compassionate approach, closing the deal with a smile and a firm handshake.

Sadly, Arnie has passed on to the big walleye lake in the sky, but his dream lives on at Astro UP! Over 3 decades later, we are still a family business, locally owned and operated by Jennifer and Aaron. We still offer high quality products, friendly and knowledgeable service with a smile, and are just as passionate about your project as you are! Perhaps, that’s why contractors and homeowners still take the scenic drive to Astro UP in Rock. We are so honored to be carrying on Arnie’s legacy and we know he’d be proud!

Jennifer Elliott-Bagwell Co-Owner, CPA—Accounting/Sales Associate

When she’s not belting out “Watermelon Crawl” at Karaoke night, Jennifer can be found crunching numbers and helping customers achieve their dream homes. A Rock native, Jennifer joined the Astro U.P. team in 1989 and has fond memories working with her father. She enjoys the outdoors, camping, and spending time with her daughter Madison, son Austin and grandson Vaughn. Favorite Product: All of them, we only sell products we would use on our own homes. Favorite Siding Color: Smoky Ash Favorite Door Color: Cabana Brown

Aaron Robitaille Co-Owner/Sales Associate

Aaron joined the Astro U.P. team in 1995 and is a self proclaimed, “Jack of all trades, Master of none”. However, we think of him as our Alliance Window expert among many other things. He is originally from Rock and now lives a tad further north in Gwinn. When he’s not at work he can be found going on family adventures near and far, sampling all types of cuisine or just enjoying a long nap in his Lay-Z-Boy recliner. Don’t judge, he works hard and deserves to relax! Favorite Product: Likes them all! Favorite Siding Color: Too many combinations to narrow down. Favorite Door Color: Also too many combinations to narrow down.

Hunter Pepin Delivery Driver

Hunter is a Rock native who enjoys hunting, fishing, and riding dirt bikes with his brother and friends. He can often be found sitting behind the wheel of the Astro UP Delivery truck munching on beef jerky and listening to Rock or Country Tunes. In his downtime, he likes going to camp, repeatedly watching his favorite movie “Step Brothers” and enjoying his Grandma Mary’s famous homemade beef barley soup. Hunter’s ideal vacation would be riding his dirt bike on the moon but is perfectly happy riding it here on earth in the meantime. Favorite Product: J-Blocks Favorite Siding Color: Russet Red Favorite Door Color: White

Dayton Bernson Delivery Driver & Heavy Lifter

It seems fitting that Dayton is a delivery driver since his life passion is to travel around the world site-seeing and doing some hunting and fishing. Although he doesn’t get to do any hunting or fishing during work hours, he does get to see the sites of Upper Michigan. When he isn’t out on a delivery, he is making his co-workers crack up with his “Blink-182” impressions or talking with them about future life plans that somehow always turn into doomsday scenarios. Dayton also likes riding dirt bikes, going to camp, and hanging out with friends. Favorite Product: LP Smartside Favorite Siding Color: American Walnut Favorite Door Color: Black
